Oahu Wedding Workshop Highlights (1C) HFNA

This past week, I had the pleasure of working with Hitomi Gilliam AIFD and Lois Hiranaga AIFD on HFNA's (Hawaii Floriculture and Nursery Assoc.) "Wedding Celebrations 2019" which was held at Floradec Sales, Honolulu, HI.  We celebrated the marriage of our local tropical flora with temperate flowers from the mainland in a style called "Tropical Nouveau."

Cont. René van Rems' Wedding Symposium

Our "Hawaiian Day" began with a lecture by Lois Hiranaga, AIFD.  Using her book, Neotropica, she showed the audience the different types of tropical flowers and foliages from Hawaii.  Hawaiian product was supplied by Green Point Nurseries, Hilo, Hawaii.  http://www.greenpointnursery.com/  The Hawaii Tropical Plant and Flower Guide, Neotropica, is available for purchase at this link: http://www.hena.org/NeoTropica/tabid/72/Default.aspx

The anthuiums, ginger and foliages were from Hawaii.

Following Lois' lecture, Erica Rasmussen AIFD, David McCormick and Deb Di Bella AIFD gave a demonstration on haku lei making, ti leaf lei making, stringing flowers with a needle and thread and how to make a carrying container with ti leaves to transport the lei.

Meanwhile, the production continued in the back of the studio...
